Tinnitus should be taken more seriously, it disturbs sleep, it disturbs work, causes mental fatigue, unless one had it real bad it's not possible to imagine how difficult it can get. Btw some medications can cause it, it's not just loudness, take care.
- cableshaft 6y agoI was prescribed Ciproflaxacin several years ago and back then it wasn't well known how toxic it can be (my doctor just said it was an antibiotic, nothing more). I had pretty bad neuropathy from it right away and off and on for a few years afterwards (Just from a few pills. It's the first pill I've ever taken that I called into the doctor and said "I think I'm having a really bad reaction to the pills"). If I could go back knowing what I know now and not take the Cipro I definitely wouldn't. It seems like my health went into a downward trajectory pretty much right after I took that first pill, that it hasn't ever recovered from, at least not entirely. It's also now known to potentially lead to Tinnitus[1], so I wouldn't be surprised if that at least did something that led me down the path to Tinnitus, even though it's been like 8 or 9 years since I've taken it now (thankfully the neuropathy seems to be gone). The Tinnitus is mostly ignorable right now (unless I think about it, which invariably will be at least a few times a day), but it does get worse on some days, and has interfered with concentration and ability to sleep at times. I am finally seeing an ENT a little under two weeks now that I'm fully vaccinated (it started a few months before the first lockdown). But yeah, I'm really worried about 10, 15, 20 years down the line. I did hear that the CEO of Texas Roadhouse killed himself because of extremely bad Tinnitus recently. If it got even twice as worse as I have it right now (like if my rare bad days become the new normal), I imagine life would get pretty difficult in general. Hopefully it won't get to that point.
