Not if you change the "we".
If you select people from only the the top 5% of the smartest, most productive, and respectful/empathetic people, then it probably won't fail.
Earth failed because some of us (say, the lower half) are dragging the rest down.
- kaba0 6y agoYou mean the inbred billionaires that can pay for that?
- young_unixer 6y agoNo, I mean that the first people that colonize mars won't be selected randomly from our earth population. They will be selected because they have some useful ability and psychologically stable character, which will create a whole different culture on the planet.
- kaba0 6y agoAnd you base it on what?
- young_unixer 6y agoOn the fact that astronauts go through a lot of filters before being selected to go to space.
- dave_sullivan 6y agoYou know there's a popular school of thought that basically says, "Thinking you are better than people leads to bad things", or at the very least people thinking you are an asshole and not wanting to be around you?

- young_unixer 6y agoYeah. I'm trying to do better. In my defense: I'm not an asshole IRL, just on the Internet (I think).
