Looks like mine relies heavily on pandoc, unoconv, xxd, jq, and OpenSSL. Apparently, some packagers include an enhanced OS customization with high-risk information retrieval tools (see seclists comment). pdftotext seems reasonable and looks to be part of the Debian lessfilter.
