I am also a Python programmer, and would much rather write code in Java these days. Having a compiler tell you when you've made a mistake rather than waiting for a test to run is so much more productive. People who tell you that scripting languages improve productivity are lying.

Scripting languages can be great for very quick iterations, but they can also cause serious issues in larger, mature projects.
