Show HN: Visualize your Google Drive storage
- trungdq88 6y agoI built this because I couldn't find any existing tool that does this, took me 3 weeks. What do you guys think? :)
- throwaway888abc 6y agoLove the idea. Will not use for privacy reasons. There is something less appalling from Google https://one.google.com/storage/management?from=1 https://one.google.com/storage/management?from=1 Google should buy you and make it 'new default' for all users.
- trungdq88 5y agoCompletely understand and agree :) (Especially the part about Google should buy this)
- luckman212 5y agoLooks really great! (I'm a fan of DaisyDisk too). This part: > Can DriveStats.io read my data in Google Drive? > No. We can only see the file/folder names For most people, I expect "seeing filenames" would be considered "reading my data". I understand this may be unavoidable due to Google's APIs, which is unfortunate.
- trungdq88 5y agoThe worst part is that Google doesn't make it clear on the OAuth screen that DriveStats.io can only read file names. It just says "read info from your Google Drive", which is also unfortunate. But thanks for the support! I guess I can use this on my own Drive for now, haha.
- twobitshifter 6y agoCool, in the screenshots I don’t see anything that looks like GMAIL which is the largest data hog in my google drive. How does email get handled here? Did you look for inspiration in any desktop disk analyzer tools? Usually a tree map is used instead of the circular layout you’ve chosen.
- trungdq88 6y agoThis only scans Google Drive, so emails are not included. The UI is heavily inspired by my favorite macOS app, Daisy Disk. :) I'll look into adding a treemap visualization. Thanks for the feedback!
- twobitshifter 6y agoOk, something like 13 GB of my 15 GB Google Storage is from gmail, but I might be an unusual case. This app may be really helpful for someone on a chromebook.
- dpleban 5y agoThis looks really cool. Also, thanks! I just discovered unDraw thanks to this!
