Every time an industry calls for new taxes, what they're actually asking for is a way to hide unrelated cost increases.
That is likely to filter through to consumers. The boss of the world's biggest shipping company, Maersk, recently told the BBC the cost of tackling climate change in the industry would "translate into something like six cents per pair of sneakers".
No freaking way. Sneakers will go up $10 first year, and an additional $10 the year after, because everyone in the chain will take the carbon tax opportunity to pass the costs of a million unrelated things down.
