We use microwaves on food because its faster and more directed at heating the food with electricity than with a resistive element in a normal oven. However is you immerse a resistive element in water the heat transfer is very quick and microwaves have no advantage only added complexity and more potential for losses not making into the water.
- gus_massa 6y agoI agree. Note that IIUC they are trying to replace/make a tankless water heating system, not a central big boiler with a big tank at the basement. Anyway, there are electric tankless heaters that use a resistor and are much more simple than their solution. And the efficiency is probably 100%. I can't imagine where the other 4-6% goes. Here in Argentina we mostly use gas, but electric showers are popular in [some parts of?] Brazil. The big resistor is in the showerhead, and it's very weird to see an electric wire connected to the shower ... ElectroBOOM has a video about this type of showers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06w3-l1AzFk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06w3-l1AzFk
