Foxconn mostly abandons $10B Wisconsin project touted by Trump
- jsiepkes 6y ago> Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said the new agreement will save Wisconsin taxpayers “a total of $2.77 billion compared to the previous contract, [...] So now all of a sudden we need to look at NOT giving tax deductions as a win where as before giving tax deductions were a win because "we got so much jobs etc. in return"...
- fuzzylightbulb 6y agoIn his defense though, the contract signed by his predecessor was an absolute sham and getting the state out from under it with as little additional costs as possible is the 100% right thing to do.
- afrodc_ 6y agoIt looks like they're still bring in jobs but at ~10% as previously planned and they're only eligible for the $80 million over 6 years given they meet the requirements. Seems like a win to me.

- sschueller 6y agoDidn't people loose homes to Eminent domain in this case? Discusting how a company can effectively just steal property from people. Sure they got paid but the rates are always way below market.
- jjeaff 6y agoAnd one of the more infuriating aspects of imminent domain is that the government is under no obligation to use the land for the purpose that they specified when taking the land from you. In fact, they don't have to do anything with it once they have taken it and you have no recourse.
- toomuchtodo 6y agoThis sound like a bug in statute that needs patching, where if you take the property but don’t use it for the intended purpose, you pay punitive damages to the property owner (some multiplier of the value paid).
- whywhywhywhy 6y agoWhy can you buy it in the first place if it can just be taken from you.
- toomuchtodo 6y agoProperty rights are complicated and have an enormous amount of tech debt acquired over centuries of legal history. (IANAL but I am an active provider of housing)
- pyuser583 6y agoI don’t think so. Mostly they were offered cash for the option to buy. Do you have a source about eminent domain being used?
- genmud 6y agoTotally Shocked.
