If you have an iOS device you can control your AppleTV from the TV Remote. I didn't notice this until recently and I never use the physical remote now. When you are prompted to type you can use your iOS device to type in text. Very handy. You can also control your AppleTV via Siri, but that's a bit more hit/miss depending on what you ask of course.
