Most likely 14-16 laptops (and iMac Pro if they decide to do that again) will have a larger chip (say "M1X") that supports more memory. The M1 only supports two LPDDR4X chips (physically on the package there's only space for two).
- ssijak 5y agoIs there a physical reason why those 2 LPDDR4X chips could not be in a 2x16gb configuration and are topped at 2x8gb currently?
- floatboth 5y agoNo one even makes 16Gb on one chip. Samsung and Micron currently max out at 12Gb and I would imagine there's much less supply of these than of 4 and 8.
