Russia is considering leaving the ISS for its own space station
- webmobdev 5y agoRussia lost controlling access to the ISS last year after SpaceX performed its first operational mission to the orbiting lab for NASA. Vladimir Putin has also warned that the US' decision to launch a Space Force suggests the White House views space as a "military theatre and plans to conduct operations there." The fears seem well-founded. And competition should do us all good.
- throwaway4good 5y agoIt will do us all bad - who the f (except the us military complex) wants an arm race in outer space?!
- webmobdev 5y agoMilitarisation of space is bad. But building another competing station can be good.
- lokimedes 5y agoRegarding space stations, why haven’t we seen a massive rise in project announcements based on the cheaper access to space due to SpaceX?
- lacker 5y agoSpace stations like the ISS might be like the space shuttle or hydrogen dirigibles - a really cool technological achievement that seemed promising for a while, but in the end not the best way to achieve any sort of practical goal, so not something that gets really scaled up as part of a growing industry.
