Reddit unveils its Clubhouse clone: Reddit Talk
- mraza007 6y agoIts quite interesting to see how most companies are just building ClubHouse like clones just to compete with ClubHouse. I wonder if ClubHouse gets acquired by a bigger company
- HDMI_Cable 6y agoEven if there are a bunch of bigger "clones" out there, Clubhouse still has the advantage because it has the community. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they get eaten up for the network effects.
- nowherebeen 6y agoClubhouse, being the market leader at this moment, doesn't even have good enough content to keep me going back after two weeks. How will having more clone apps on the market (Twitter, FB, Reddit, etc) make it any better? At that point, I probably won't even install any because the content will be diluted so much on each platform, it won't even be worth it to bother.
- sjg007 6y agoIt'd be an interesting experiment to see reddit or hacker news have audio components. It's a different type of engagement so longer format the moment. I follow the clubhouse boss talk podcasts from a16z despite not being on clubhouse which I find very informative. So it's like a less formal podcast and an easier to use podcast platform?
- sausla 6y agoIt was just a matter of time. Clubhouse is not a product, but a feature of a bigger player like Facebook or Twitter.
- throwawaysea 6y agoI don’t find the Clubhouse concept that interesting personally, but what does it say about the industry when big incumbents can just copy an innovative idea from a smaller player? It feels wrong to me. Isn’t this what IP laws are meant to protect against?
- calmingsolitude 6y agoOn a side, I wouldn't say that the idea behind clubhouse is particularly innovative; rather it was executed well.
- xt00 6y agoIt definitely feels like clubhouse is just a fad that will disappear into the ether or just get absorbed as a feature of other players and generally will end up being little used.. but who knows..
- dbbk 6y agoIt really feels to me like a Silicon Valley VC-universe fad. I haven't heard anyone in the real world mention it.
- hermitsings 6y agoI've always considered Clubhouse to be a fad.
- vagrantJin 6y agoYeah but I would really be interested in listening to the comments here as peoples voices rather than just text. It's not a bad idea. Like the whatsapp voice notes but for comments.
- cblconfederate 6y agoThere is an idea of a Clubhouse, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real Clubhouse, only an entity, something illusory.
- tonoto 6y agoThe "clone" be better than the original imho. As of now Clubhouse seem to be mostly for artists, influencers, politics and non-tech people (or they mark themselves as tech for working in a tech business, but in a non-tech role). I was glad to be honoured with an invite, just to find out that the forums/subjects seem rather boring.. but that's maybe just me having too much hopes of a social community filled with interesting subjects and people, for instance like an eternal tech summit with ongoing sessions either teaching eachother or driving the open source community forward..
- dannyphantom 6y agoThis doesn't seem surprising. Curious to see how this works out; hosts moderate their own Talk so I'm anticipating a lot of problems to arise out of that.

- Tiktaalik 6y agoProbably gonna eclipse Clubhouse real quick. On reddit you're already part of a few established, niche communities, so it's an easy shift from chatting/arguing with people in text threads to in shifting to listening to the subreddit and chatting. On clubhouse I'm looking around for communities to be a part of, and I'm not really interested in any that are there, and too lazy to make my own. Easier just to turn off the app.
