They went extinct because we "outcompeted" them? If so, there would presumably be other creatures, competing for the same limited resources as us, that also went extinct at the same time. I thought the accepted theory was that we directly killed them off. Though... I suppose that conflict could be caused by competition for resources, as are many wars.
