I've been arguing this for a while: I want a browser that deliberately cannot run random scripts; only from a vetted source.
That source will contain stuff like autocomplete and htmx or similar.
If something doesn't work with that it asks you if you want to enable "bloat mode - warning: unsafe" and I the user chooses it enables a full browser engine.
- jraph 6y agouBlock Origin with JavaScript disabled by default comes close and I'm currently using it like this. You can temporarily re-enable scripts for a website, or "lock" the reactivation for websites requiring Javascript and you need to use regularly. My computer is once again cool, fast and quiet.
- matteqa 6y agoLibreJS is probably what you're looking for.
- MaxBarraclough 6y agoA good suggestion, but LibreJS is about blocking non-trivial JavaScript which isn't Free Software, it's not about vetting specific JavaScript files. A malicious website can declare its JavaScript to be Free Software, and LibreJS will then permit that script to run. * https://www.gnu.org/software/librejs/ https://www.gnu.org/software/librejs/ * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_LibreJS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_LibreJS
- coldpie 6y agoNoScript goes a pretty long way to being what you want, while still being usable. You can whitelist scripts per-domain, so you can still block the garbage while making the site functional.
