There are almost no organizations standing up for those civil liberties now. The ACLU is abandoning this mission (https://reason.com/2018/06/21/aclu-leaked-memo-free-speech/ https://reason.com/2018/06/21/aclu-leaked-memo-free-speech/) as they have become explicitly leftist rather than neutrally focused on fundamental civil liberties, so new institutions are needed. Right now, the side with the most motivation to champion this cause is the American right, which I think is why we're seeing sites like this.
