I think a lot of it is a kind of weird virtue signaling. Blame the parent instead of the company to show that they know what good parenting is, that sort of thing. Though also some companies/people (eg. Elon Musk) do also get a weird cult of personality thing going on that is separate from this that also tends to cause some subset of people to just blindly defend them.
