Why do you think substack doesn't count as paying for news?

  Substack (to me) is more of a lens you put on to consume the news. Multiple other use cases but most people are paying and trusting someone to filter the noise for them. If they realize it or not.

    The same can be said of NYT, WaPo, etc. most are taking stories that have already broken and adding their own spin on it, often to score points for whatever tribal team they represent
