  Gitlab is just another US company equally affected by DMCA and other US copyright laws/processes.

    It's open source and therefor easier to migrate to a self-hosted version, though. It's also arguably a US HQed company while GitHub is simply a US company.

      Dude wut? Git itself is open and decentralised. You are supposed to backup your data not your SAAS provider. There are bazillion git hosting services/tools much lighter than hot heavy mess of Gitlab.
