Same with Facebook. Same with crap journalism. Junk food for the brain gets clicks. Just like sexy women got eyeballs on magazines, rage-bait gets clicks on links. The big question is... how are we going to pay for the web without advertising? Nobody has been able to answer that question. The closest we seem to have is things like Patreon, and that doesn't cut it for big services.
