This is a pretty revealing story about Amazon, if true. The TLDR is they wanted Ecobee’s Alexa enabled devices to report user’s data to Amazon constantly, and have threatened to stop selling their products otherwise. Ecobee refused out of customer trust concerns and because Amazon is known for building products that compete with their own sellers. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is true, since such allegations have been brought up in the EU by other companies as well. Amazon has unprecedented capital and market power and is in competing on many different fronts. They should not be able to get away with such practices and should be held accountable. I was hoping the Biden administration will pursue antitrust cases against the tech giants, but given they have cozied up to the Democrats with moves like banning Parler from AWS, I’m not sure if that’ll actually happen.
