I have a side project successfully utilising Firebase auth. But do understand that this is a “sticky” approach. Moving away (for whatever reasons) is difficult. You want to have a clear migration strategy if you opt for 3rd party auth mechanism. You don’t want a vendor owning your customers. I have heard of Auth0 and would recommend exploring it for the reason that OAuth based approaches will provide you decent portability.
- futhey 5y agoSame boat, I will add: - Firebase has tooling for user export now, you can migrate away - Custom JWT token auth means you can build / extend your auth system in the future - Firebase Auth is free and really easily decoupled from the other products – you don't need them.
- advaitruia 5y agoFirebase is great. Check out SuperTokens.io too. We provide open source authentication as an alternative to SaaS provides such as Auth0 and Keycloak. Its free, writes to your own database (so you own your own data) and is built to be dead simple to setup. Disclaimer: Cofounder of SuperTokens.io here. Would love to hear what you think
