- pezezin 6y agoYour numbers are a bit off. The PS2 had 36 MB of RAM (32 main, 4 graphics), and the Gamecube had 43 MB (24 main, 16 audio, 3 graphics).
- creata 6y agoWhy did the GameCube dedicate so much of its RAM to audio?
- bombcar 6y agoIt wasn’t dedicated to audio - it was DRAM (slower than the main RAM) that could be used for various things - but audio was one of the most common.
- kevingadd 6y agoThe RAM could be used for things other than audio, but audio on the GC was driven by a dedicated special DSP chip, so it's not weird for that thing to have its own bank of memory. AFAIK the Wii used the same audio chip and I think the Wii U might have as well?
- mypalmike 6y agoIndeed. XBox was the easy target of those 3.
