I don't see this being any different from any other highly mutative Zoonotic disease, e.g. influenza, with a large natural reservoir. We can't eradicate Covid-19 through human vaccinations and we know that new strains with new properties will arrise. Yes this makes Pfizer money but as mRNA vaccine production technology matures the cost of the vaccine will drop.
