The ThinkPad X12 Detachable Is Lenovo’s Latest Take on the Surface Pro
- maxharris 6y agoI had an Intel-based Surface Pro a couple of years ago. It was too slow and too expensive. When are they going to ship something competitive with the ARM-based things that Apple's been shipping? I'd love to have something that isn't x86-based, looks reasonably nice (the X12 fits the bill nicely) sips power, and has great support for Haiku.
- klondike_ 6y agoMicrosoft is working on Windows for ARM (not to be confused with the incompatible and obsolete Windows RT). However the performance isn't quite there yet
- atat7024 6y agoI got a $180 Surface Pro 3 a few years ago that can still do 10 tabs each in 3 browsers, and image editing. What issues did you bump up against?
- pyrophane 6y agoOne thing the review doesn’t mention is anything about the quality of the front facing camera. I have a thinkpad p1 that is a couple of years old and the integrated camera quality is just awful. For some reason this seems to be the case with a lot of PC laptops. I would buy something like this if I could use it for zooms without having to reach for my external Logitech camera.
- geoelectric 6y agoTangential to the review, I'm glad that 3:2 displays are universally getting praise wherever they appear. After using my iPad Pro as a sidekick monitor, I've really come to appreciate how much extra vertical space you get at that ratio. It's much nicer for coding and other tasks that benefit from seeing the surrounding context. My hope is 3:2 might become a standard for PC or at least laptop monitors, rather than most things being 16:10 (which isn't so bad) or 16:9 (which is).
- ducktective 6y agoIn 16:9, I can view two max 80-char column source-code panes side by side. Can I do the same on 16:10 or 3:2?
- geoelectric 6y agoAs long as they keep the screen roughly as wide as the keyboard + side bezels, I don't see why not. It'd have to add vertical height, not take away horizontal. I suspect the market would push that one in the right direction. I'm also not suggesting the previous aspect ratios go away entirely, since they're plainly better for some use cases. I'd just like some more choices in what I buy.
- ducktective 6y agoI fear Lenovo loses its edge on their superior thinkpad designs (keyboard, build quality,...) in their race to the CURRENT_YEAR fad of thin/light/tablet-like personal computers...
- stonecharioteer 6y agoWhy not a Ryzen processor though?
