Last I looked into it, QNAP had some serious outstanding security issues that they weren't acknowledging and weren't fixing, that turned me off of them fast. If Synology isn't to be trusted (this plus starting to lock down part support like allowing only their own HDDs,) the only thing that remains seems to be building your own and running TrueNAS or Unraid.
