Logic team was distracted for the past year writing Garageband for iPad. Here's hoping they are now back to cranking on the next version of Logic in full force.

  Got a source for that? I'm always fascinated at how Apple teams seem to work on several projects serially instead of forever working on the next version of some product.

    It's hard to keep good developers, unless you let them work on something brand-new once in a while.

Eh, friend of a friend who was a "big shot mixing guy in LA" claimed that Apple was ditching the pro audio space now that ProTools isn't hardware bound anymore and has been taking more market share. Then again, Apple has been really quiet about Logic Pro and surprised everybody with announcements of new versions every time.

Logic is riding on momentum from the emagic days. It was so good to begin with that even after years of neglect from Apple it's still competitive. It's pretty clear that the pro apps are not a priority at Apple. The development pace of Sonar, Cubase, Live, Performer and Protools is leaving Logic behind now and hardly anybody codes native AudioUnits anymore. They just write vsts and use a wrapper. Pro audio is a niche market with a demanding clientele and it's clear Apple figures it can make a lot more money with music toys for iPads.
