The main culprit is Matthew Trout(aka mst). He is basically the Perl communities RMS. He’s toxic but has his fans that will defend him and his “quirks”. Whenever he gets in trouble he of course immediately wraps himself in the flag of being neurosivergent or polyamorous or whatever else he feels might best absolve him this time around.
Perl has an MST problem it needs to solve.
- rabbits77 6y agoExample of MST being told by Sawyer to leave him alone and MST not relenting. Of course over the years he has done worse to others. Mainly new users, especially women. https://gist.github.com/wchristian/4e1bcdb761f20985b0a5c97a423a4fc6#file-__sawyer-txt https://gist.github.com/wchristian/4e1bcdb761f20985b0a5c97a4...
- cbanek 6y agoI feel like this is a microcosm of tech and life in general. I always wonder how toxic people get so far, but then I see the path of destruction left in their wake, and I'm like, oh that's how. I think every job I've had has had at least 3 people of the toxic golden boy type in everyone company that people just deal with.
- rurban 5y agoWrong. In the thread you can clearly see who the problematic, toxic person was. Not just, but the one who gave up. He was also not a perl core developer. Just the community manager.
