This is what I would assume too. I remember sitting next to a manager's cubicle at GE and hearing him discuss candidates. He would say things like, "Wow, this guy applying for this entry position has a PhD, he definitely would get bored and leave quickly." These places just want to fill seats at max capacity and turn over just means more work.
