In a panic we often jump to what we trained on. I couldn't tell from the footage (as shown on TV), and I wonder if the taser was kept on the left side (I'm right-hand dominant). In additional to taking a few minutes: Pulling in help and admitting you'd just made the mistake goes a long way to ensure the fix doesn't make things worse by having more level heads involved.
