Adobe isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It may at some point, but not in the next 10-15 years. The last time I looked at their SEC fillings, they are doing pretty good. Of course how they achieve this 'pretty good' is a whole new question on its own. Adobe is very strongly rooted in the design industry, there are very few alternatives that are mainly used by smaller shops or individuals. I do agree that they are absolutely riding on their own wave right now due to lack of competition, but someday, someone will come along with a better offering.
- foobiter 6y agoCame here to say this too. There are thousands and thousands of companies that have built adobe based workflows into their processes for decades and rely on sending adobe files to other companies with adobe software... thousands of people whose professions are based on mastering their complex software... I don’t think a lot of people heralding their death here have seen how broad and deep they reach within specific industries. They are certainty messing up their massive lead, but are more profitable than ever and could coast on their deep roots for at least a decade. I’ve been hoping to see strong competitors against them since I started my career... 15 years ago... and they’re just starting to get viable rivals for some of their applications now. No one’s really trying to compete with them in the print industry, which is shrinking, but not going to be gone soon.
