One funny thing is, few years ago there was a promo video on Heroku.com homepage "complained" about the high price after an intensive praising for the platform. It's not that people just suddenly started talking about the price issue today.
Heroku is a great product, there is no denying that. However, relying on startup/small teams is kind risky. Some startups fail after awhile, those who succeed sometimes "grow out of" Heroku to keep their cost down.
I think what Heroku needed is a plan or two that can keep the both end happy, instead of offering a plan that eventually driving successful teams away.
