I think that might actually shift it out of realistic price range for my house. I'd been looking at them last year as a possibility when we get the roof replaced.

  It was already too expensive... are they trying to bring the TSLA price down?

    You have a renewable-friendly administration in office that might be drastically increasing subsidies, this could just be positioning Tesla to take full advantage of that. Or it could be the margins are too thin and possibly even negative for some installations so this creates a buffer to prevent loss on an installation. Tesla's news release implies the latter. Either way I think this will push many to alternative providers and some small portion to DIY.
