This article is a deeper dive into menstrual irregularities that were first covered, as far as I know, by the Daily Mail (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9446907/Some-women-report-heavier-painful-PERIODS-getting-COVID-19-vaccine.html https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9446907/Some-wome...) and then picked up by other news media.
Quick background story: an Illinois professor had been hearing anecdotal stories of women experiencing menstrual changes following vaccine shots. She began a discussion about it on Twitter which then received a lot of attention and reports of the same side effects from women, and then she created a survey to gather reports of this phenomenon more fully. Interestingly, even though women are less susceptible to serious effects of COVID-19, they are more susceptible to vaccine side effects compared to men.
Towards the end of the Daily Mail article, there are some opinions from experts that there isn't a clear biological mechanism that would explain why this is happening. This article on Substack explores potential biological mechanisms as to why menstrual periods may be disrupted by COVID-19 vaccines.
