As AI and machines enables the same output with less work, if the men at the top fires the people that are subsequently "not needed" and put that money in their own pockets, we're on the way to a very bad place. Ideally, the extra income that AI and machines enable, would end up in everyone's pockets, and the extra free time as well. I don't think the latter is what is happening though, hence the 312-to-1 ratio.
