This is not an apology.
- howeyc 6y agoThat's because having opinions is not something to apologize for.

- philpem 6y agoIf your "opinions" hurt people then yes, that is something to apologise for.
- durovo 6y agoThis opinion hurts me. Will you apologize now? EDIT: My phrasing was a bit too aggressive. But I believe that this opinion that people should always apologize if their opinions offend anyone is absurd. People should have the right to be offended. Being offended does not mean that you deserve an apology.
- Udik 6y agoNot at all. If your opinions are correct, and yet they hurt someone, do you need to apologise? Or maybe you think that it's impossible for a correct or reasonable opinion to hurt others? Because in that case I have tons of counterexamples. A lot of people were offended by the theory that man descended from apes. Do you think Darwin should have apologised?
- prepend 6y agoI think it depends on what the opinions are. I used to be a vegetarian and had friends who would be upset and hurt when people ate meat. I don’t think meat eaters should apologize. There’s lots of situations where someone says something reasonable, and someone gets upset and no apology is necessary. Your claim that absolutely if opinions hurt people then the opinion haver should apologize , is wrong I think. And will lead to less discussion and a net negative to society.
- fsflover 6y agoYou hurt me by this comment. I demand an apology from you.
- infamouscow 6y agoWhat exactly does an apology look like if not this?

- cryptoz 6y agoThe word 'sorry' could go along way. But in this statement, ctrl+f for 'sorry' -> 0 results. Okay, let's try 'apologize' -> 1 result. > Some people could cope with this; others were hurt. I apologize to each of them. He victim-blames by saying that people 'couldn't cope' with him, and he's apologizing to them (because they couldn't cope??) There are a billion apologies better than this. Simply "I made mistakes and I'm sorry" with some explanation that he feels remorse or is otherwise understanding of the pain he has caused. This text instead reads like a spiteful, upset piece where he explains how misunderstood he is. That's not even close to an apology.
- thinkingemote 6y agoCorrect. It's an address. I don't think anyone was expecting an apology, they were demanding a complete resignation of the entire board of the FSF. People were not wanting an apology to forgive someone afterwards. They were demanding total capitulation. Peace was not on the table.
