Speech recognition in consumer electronics continues to be slow, unreliable, and a privacy nightmare. I can't tell you the last time I saw someone use it seriously. There are reasonable applications for it, but they are few and far between. I wonder what makes it worth $20B to MS. Top comment as I'm writing this says Nuance has a strong presence in the healthcare device market, but I'd be surprised if that alone was worth the purchase price.
