I had to use a fax machine a few years ago because the university I was attending (UC Merced) would only accept some documentation in person, or by fax (waiving the annoying-to-opt-out student medical insurance). Why you couldn't submit it through the student web portal is beyond me. It was a bit of a hilarious experience plugging a VoIP box into a ~2010 Brother MFC printer/scanner. It might be the only time I've ever sent a fax in my entire life (and I'm 28).
