I've seen this. 90% of the time, the company loses a good engineer and trades him for a mediocre manager. It's a lose-lose situation.
Nowadays, managers are focused on 1on1s. Totally useless.
- hallway_monitor 5y agoI used to think that. As long as I can write code when I need to and I can inform designs and architectures, my company gets all the benefit of my programming skills as well as my team building skills.
- bsaul 5y agoi actually this is also the most productive way to use a senior developer : have him focus on helping the team design and architect software instead of coding everything himself, and help other people grow to his level.
