This is all very sad. One would think that A. D. 2021 a program implementing one abstraction upon another abstraction wouldn’t have to care about the actual hardware it’s running on. But in the actual fact we have GUI programs containing quirks for graphic chips, and userland programs deeply concerned with what kind of filesystem they are writing to.
