Living in Berlin but coming from Bavaria this is one of the things I miss the most.
Brezeln
They were the first thing I bought when I had to go to the south of Germany for projects. There are some good bakeries (for bread) in Berlin too but they’re expensive and sparse. Good Brezeln are hard to come by.
- lqet 6y agoI remember being on holiday at the German coast as a kid, craving for a Brezel. I was shocked that the bakeries there didn't sell them (at least in the 90ies). To me, a bakery was basically a Brezel-selling store with some additional stuff for adults (most bakeries here have a stylized Brezel in their logo). My 2 year old daughter calls bakeries "Brezel". But, as someone from the Stuttgart area, I would argue that a good Brezel is also hard to find in Bavaria ;)
- tonyjstark 6y agoFair enough :)
- sjm 6y agoI thought the pretzels at Prater Biergarten in Prenzlauer Berg were pretty good. There's also a Hofpfisterei in Mitte although I don't know their reputation.
- tonyjstark 6y agoThe ones at Prater are nice, but in my area (Kreuzberg) I sadly didn’t find any consistently good ones in walking distance yet.
- spaetzleesser 6y agoIsn’t it “Brez’n” in Bayern?
- tonyjstark 6y agoYou’re absolutely right, my brain wasn’t able to correctly separate English and German in the middle of the night.
- andor 6y agoI recently had a good fresh Brezel at BioBackhaus in Dahlem-Dorf. The same ones in grocery stores around the city tend to be stale already. Bread from Zeit für Brot is available at Alnatura and Denns branches and the Gorillas delivery service.
