Death of Prince Philip – too much coverage on BBC TV
- daveoc64 6y agoInteresting to see this. The media going completely overboard with this news was to be expected really, but is it really necessary for the BBC to have the same output on four different channels? On the other hand, they would have been hit with a lot of criticism from the tabloids if they hadn't shut everything down.
- mytailorisrich 6y agoThe BBC has been covering this non-stop since this was announced with literally everyone (including weathermen) dressed in black. That being said, this is a momentous event and a very rare one considering the longevity of Prince Philip and the Queen. The Queen Mother died in 2002 and King George VI in 1952. Pretty much no-one alive today can remember a similar event or a time without Prince Philip as Consort, so it's difficult to judge whether the BBC is doing too much. It certainly is a historical day. Edit: in fact it seems that the last time the spouse of the reigning monarch died was when Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, died in 1861. It's interesting that it was also during the reign of the previous female monarch.
