I use a lot of reference photos as a professor and a designer. I keep a long list of sources, but as I go I always download as much as I can. I have seen countless resources dry up or get locked down to sell some prints. Many of the ones on this list are great, but for my purposes the ones that lock the high res image from being easily downloaded aren't really honoring the spirit of their usually breathless release announcements. A simple rights notice would keep me or any real business from using it for commercial purposes.
