That's a disgusting way to frame the plight of minors that have no consent in the journey they are coerced into taking.
And, no, I'm not talking about people offering advice and posting safe routes. I'm talking about coyotes for cartels promising safe escort for thousands of dollars. Which is a lie. They will let these people die if necessary. Then they'll hold them hostage if they do make it, by threatening to kill their families back home if payment is not received.

- yonaguska 6y agoI'm struggling to see how you don't think this scenario is exploitative. Services rendered may or may not include you being dropped off in the desert with no food, water, and left for dead, being stashed dangerous transport situations, being subject to rape, or forced sex work, being forced into working as a mule or other criminal activity. Children in the holding facilities have been observed engaging in sex acts with each other, indicative of being abused on the journey there. Children are showing up with damaged vocal chords. Women are routinely raped by their smugglers. I'm amazed that every response I'm getting is questioning how what is going on at the border is not human trafficking. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/03/us/border-rapes-migrant-women.html https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/03/us/border-rapes-migrant-w... We are talking about Facebook providing a platform for advertising for these transactions. Do you remember FESTA/SOSTA, craigslist, and backpage and all the uproar over that? But Facebook gets a pass.
- thaumasiotes 6y agoCome on. What do you think happens when you borrow money from organized crime?
