Mushrooms in general is a very fleeting thing. For instance, when I take soil from the garden inside and use for planting it's not uncommon for a tiny mushroom to suddenly sprout, bloom, and wilt in less than a day.
- samstave 6y agoThat means you have good mycelium in your soil. The Mushroom is the actual mycelium network - that is the organism. The "mushroom" that you pick and eat is the fruit/sex-organ of the mycelium solely made to reproduce. The mycelium reproduces in a number of different stages, and can lay dormant for years. Genetic material is swapped beteen two different organisms. The males are called + and the females are called - When a + meets a - , they swap genetic material, which then flows through the mycelium until it fruits as a mushroom and that is what we pick and eat.
