The Little Known Passport That Protected 450k Refugees
- londons_explore 6y agoThe article doesn't really explain how a passport solved the issues... If a country doesn't want refugees taking all the jobs, and the refugee can't go home and no other country will let them in, how does issuing then with a passport solve anything? Was the sale of "Nansen stamps" (renewal fees for the passport) substantial enough to act as a refugee tax, therefore making taking in refugees attractive again for countries?
- cafard 6y agoNabokov or someone in one of his novels, referred to them as "Nonsense passports"--they were honored only so far.
