My recent-ish Thinkpad (T470) didn't give me much, if any trouble with hibernation on Linux. I can reliably use it to switch operating systems (dual-boot with Windows 10) without losing the state of either OS. I've had rare occasions where the presence of certain USB devices caused it to resume unexpectedly, but that's the only issue.
