Hibernation is kinda useless on my laptop with 64 GiB of RAM. Most of my machines have 32, none less than 16. Hibernation is not a very viable scenario for me.

Hibernation is not a very viable scenario for me. I have uses for a 64 GiB chunk of my solid state storage, thank you very much.
- Jenda_ 6y agoThe hibernate image is much smaller than RAM: disk cache is dropped and the image is compressed. It of course depends on your use-case (how much incompressible data you have in RAM), but you can expect about one third to one half of RAM size.
- WesolyKubeczek 6y agoBut you cannot guarantee it’s going to take half of my RAM size at most. In practice I’m going to see either hibernation failing at times, or maybe my system being hosed at times, because the hibernation image would exceed the expected fraction of RAM size. Besides, 32 GiB of disk space is nothing to sneeze at as well. I don’t quite trust using dynamically-created swap files as hibernation images, alas.
