Dell Alienware launches its first AMD-powered gaming laptop since 2007
- kevincox 6y agoTo be clear this is an AMD CPU with NVIDIA graphics. As a Linux user looking for a laptop I am fine with an Intel CPU but don't want to give any money to NVIDIA so this is doesn't solve the problem I have.
- blacksmith_tb 6y agoHardly as much horsepower as the Alienware, but I have one of these ASUS VivoBook-s[1] which are AMD CPU / AMD GPU, Ubuntu works well on it. 1: https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/For-Home/VivoBook/filter?SubSeries=VivoBook-S https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/For-Home/VivoBook/filter?Sub...
- yellowapple 6y agoYeah, when I hear or read the words "AMD-powered", I expect a laptop that's, you know, actually AMD-powered through and through. Dell even already makes a version of its G5 laptop with a Radeon RX 5600M (as I know firsthand, seeing as how one such laptop is sitting on my desk); they really expect me to believe they can't combine an AMD CPU and AMD GPU when they already demonstrate the capability to do both?
- villgax 6y agoC'mon Razer, do a 5600 with 3070! No other skews needed.
- SloopJon 6y agoI've never heard of Cherry switches on a laptop. Apparently this is the first model with Cherry MX Ultra Low Profile switches: https://www.cherrymx.de/en/blog/cherry-mx-ultra-low-profile.html https://www.cherrymx.de/en/blog/cherry-mx-ultra-low-profile....
- ksec 6y agoApple's butterfly switch design with String in between for extra Actuation force and 1.8mm of Key Travel. Which is something Apple should have done with their Butterfly.
