Count me in as one of those who disagree with you. I 100% side with the grandparent comment. When you've worked with a great QA, it's night and day vs a dev writing their own tests, but a dev not writing its own tests is a nightmare. Ideally there's a place for both and they work very closely with one another to make the software stable at all levels. It's arguable the SRE is the new QA engineer.
