I haven't heard anyone talk about "mandatory WFH forever" but lots of companies are talking about mandatory RTO forever. Time and money spent on commuting is mostly just lost. In contract, investing in a comfortable chair, good desk/computer workspace, and high-speed internet is still beneficial when you're not working.
